By Caroline Ouellette, Engadgets staff writerI’ve never had a car myself, and while I can imagine how it’s a great place to rent a car, I don’t like to drive.
The cars aren’t always fast, and it’s expensive.
I’d love to find a way to get a car for the price of renting it out, but if I can find a company that makes car rentals available for the same price, that’s a pretty good deal.
That’s exactly what Airbnb is offering for car rentals.
The company’s CarRent platform, which is free and is currently available in over 150 cities, offers rental cars for $30 per day, $70 per week, or $100 per month.
The car rental option will be available in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. (the company’s Seattle location was removed in the past few weeks).
There are no monthly rental rates, and the cars are only available for a certain amount of time each week.
You can reserve a rental for as little as a day or as long as a month, but the rental car you end up with is guaranteed to have at least three months of mileage.
There’s a catch though: you have to pay the full amount upfront before you can book a rental.
That’s a bit like driving a car when you’re buying a car in the first place.
Airbnb has partnered with local car rental companies to provide the cars for free, but it’ll also charge you $15 for each car that you book.
If you’re in a rush to find your next car rental opportunity, you can also find rental cars by using the platform’s “Compare” feature, which lists a variety of rental cars that you can compare against.
It’s a really cool feature, and I like to think that Airbnb’s Car Rental is using it to bring a new element to its platform that may otherwise have been lost due to a lack of advertising.
